Project management has been referred to as an "accidental profession". The role of project manager often falls to a technical practitioner who is appointed and then, because they were a capable contributor on previous efforts, is now expected to lead the project and team with little or no formal project management knowledge or skill.

The Professional Development Team strives to promote project management professionalism and advance the knowledge and skills of practitioners by providing training programs, workshops, forums, dinner and luncheon meeting presentations, and seminars.

Our membership, as well as other project management practitioners throughout Northern Nevada, span the experience spectrum from aspiring "want-to-be" PMs to those who are well-seasoned by many years in the PM trenches. We endeavor to meet the educational expectations of this varied community by offering a broad range of high quality, low- or no-cost practical, learning opportunities.

Dinner Meeting Speakers

Monthly Chapter dinner meetings feature speakers from local businesses, government agencies, educational institutions or community organizations who share their project management experiences and project "war stories". Presentations are always educational, often humorous, and give us in-depth insights into the real world challenges and rewards of project management. Dinner meetings are also excellent networking opportunities!

Lunch Round Table Forums

Each month we hold open-forum lunch meetings with a moderator leading a round-table discussion on varying topics of current interest. Participants share real-life work experiences, tools, lessons learned, and the opportunity to build professional friendships in the process. These lunch meetings are held in Carson City and Reno. Please check the home page for additional information.

Project Management Professional (PMP®) Examination Preparation

PMI was the first organization to offer a credential specifically for project managers, and our certification program remains the global standard.  Developed by practitioners for practitioners and representing our diverse global audience, PMI certifications give you a technical and financial edge. PMI-NNV is not currently putting on an Exam Prep Course. If you have questions about getting ready for the exam, please email the Professional Development Team and check out the Education tab on this website for options.
