In our current environment, resilience is deemed an essential capability. Especially now, in the midst of a global pandemic, resilience is seen as an essential quality. Organizationally as well as personally, viability is deemed to be measured by how resilient we are. The challenge is that resilience is one of those malleable words that we believe we understand, and yet don’t fully appreciate. We view it as meaning that we are strong, enduring, able to roll with the times and keep coming back, strong, persistent, and unyielding. There’s a lot to like about those qualities, although they also sound like a great deal of work to endure. Those qualities also relate to the idea of resilience but don’t completely capture it. The larger problem is that resilience doesn’t capture the full essence of what is needed to not just survive but also thrive in these times. There are other capabilities we need to build, enhance and be able to draw on if we are to ultimately be successful. In this presentation, Mark Mullaly—consultant, speaker, writer, and regular contributor to projectmanagement.com—explores the idea of resilience—what it is, where it came from, what it means and what it doesn’t. More importantly, he identifies, explores, and discusses how to truly adapt to our current and future circumstances. If you are trying to make sense of the world we find ourselves in and find it all just a little bit overwhelming, this is a presentation that you won’t want to miss.
