Risk Management Foundations and the Project Risk Landscape
Practicing PMs are used to seeing poor statistics commonly publicized for project success rates, with grim descriptions such as, only 26% of all projects succeed, or 17% of IT projects go so badly, they threaten the existence of the company - and similar dire reports. One reason for challenging project success rates is unrealistic risk assessment and indecisive risk response actions.
Whether modern project teams focus on avoiding reasons for failure, or striving for project success, risk management is critical, which requires anticipating and addressing uncertainty, as well as accepting statistically-driven outcomes. Proactive risk management is our response to uncertainty, and this presentation will examine key factors in the successful implementation of enterprise project risk management.
