October Lunch and Learn - A Case Study for Proactivity

Ways of Working

WEDNESDAY October 23, 2024 @ 12:00PM
In this 45-minute presentation, Steve outlines why proactivity is a fundamental of Leadership. This is the ability, and desire, to identify problems and opportunities as they approach and be ready to respond to them when they arrive, as compared to just reacting to them when they arrive and scrambling for them.
This presentation will include three sections:
  • A brief overview of proactivity and what it entails
  • A discussion of a real-world example of a program plan for a Federal client that didn’t plan on the growth in scope of the program, leading to client expectations for quality in the system being disappointed
  • Effective techniques for planning for this contingency so that its severity is alleviated.
The real-world example discussed in this presentation entails a five-year contract for operations and maintenance (O&M) of a Federal data system which is heavily policy driven.  Every year it has been updated to incorporate the updates in the policies driving it. The program plan didn’t consider that at some point, the scope of the entire system would outgrow the team funded to maintain it on its tight schedule.  Once that happened, the quality of the system started to decrease, and the management was averse to broaching the subject with the client to resolve it.Join us for a discussion of this case study, the challenges and benefits of proactivity, and a question-and-answer period following the case study for attendees to leverage these insights in their day-to-day work.
